America's Greatness

It has been nearly 11 months since I had a thought worth blogging about.  I have one now.

I don't think anyone can "make America great again."  I think we have gone past the point of rebound.  I think the worldview of our culture has made a return to pulling oneself up by one's bootstraps impossible.

What I see from people of many generations, not just the Millennials as some say, but people across all the living is a desire for something for nothing and a distinct lack of taking responsibility for one's own actions.  One specific example is the complaining of the crippling student loan debt that every single person chooses to take on, or not as the case may be.  We all get to choose.  Trade school or university or hard hand-work, it's a choice we make as individuals regardless of sex or station.

I don't believe that you can turn back to what this country was founded on from this place we find ourselves in.  I don't think you can ever go back to coming here to escape persecution when what is offered now is a hand out.  Those that came for escape and freedom 200 plus years ago came with a work ethic and a determination to build something for themselves.  To assimilate to a completely new way of life and become a new distinct people is abhorrent in our day whereas it was expected and celebrated in theirs.

This is why I am hesitant to say, "Ya'll come!" to the Muslim refugees.  The picture of America to these people is different at this point in history than it was when the Green Lady asked for the tired and weak and huddled yearning to be FREE.  Freedom is not what is offered now.  Slavery to a system that wants votes is what is offered.  I can't get behind that.
